This week, a new leader will take over the supply of bombs and bullets for the US military. During a ceremony today on Arsenal Island, Colonel Heidi Hoyle will assume command of the Joint Munitions Command, known as JMC.
Most recently, Hoyle served as Executive Officer to the Executive Deputy of Army Materiel Command at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. During her career, she has served in, and led, many units that support, maintain, distribute, and store ammunition and related items.
The native of Bay City, Michigan graduated from West Point in 1994, and later earned her masters in Systems Engineering at the University of Virginia. Colonel Hoyle has also completed special courses on national security, logistics, technology, and research.
The Joint Munitions Command oversees more than a dozen operations in the US that produce, store, and dispose of ammunition. That includes the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown and the Quad City Cartridge Case Facility at the Rock Island Arsenal. She succeeds Brigadier General Richard Dix who's served as JMC commander for more than a year.
