A more than 100 year old building in Moline could soon become a "landmark." Tuesday night the city council discussed a recommendation to make the Prospect Park Pavilion a city landmark.
Dick Potter, 4th ward alderman and chair of the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission, says both the commission and the Moline Park Board have voted unanimously to make it a landmark.
"It dates all the way back to the days when street cars ran there, and the park was different than it is today. There was swimming, roller coasters, and there was all kinds of things at Prospect Park. And it's basically one of the last things that's left there."
In addition to preserving the pavilion, built in 1891, the park board hopes landmark status will help with fundraising.
Following Tuesday night's discussion, final approval requires two formal readings by the Moline city council.
