King's Harvest Re-opening

King's Harvest Ministries

A homeless shelter and meal site in downtown Davenport is preparing to re-open after being damaged by a tornado last month. King's Harvest Ministries on West Third Street has been closed since the storm on October 6th.

Assistant director, Brandy Anderson, says the first floor with the kitchen and dining room is ready, so Friday King's Harvest can serve its usual Friday lunch at noon. The second and third floor, however, are still un-usable and final repairs will start soon.

"It did a lot of damage to the brick work on top of our building and took off a majority of our roof and caused a lot of water damage inside. The brick work has been finished and a lot of the inside stuff is being worked on. Next to be finished is the roof"

The second floor is a homeless shelter where up to 20 people were living before the tornado, and the third floor has eight sleeping rooms.

King's Harvest will resume serving 3 meals per week - lunch on Wednesdays and Fridays, and breakfast on Saturdays.

Anderson is grateful so many volunteers showed up after the storm to clean up, but now it's up to the professionals to finish the repairs.

King's Harvest will raise money for the repairs with a Thanksgiving meal on Sunday (11/13 1-4 pm) at Skellington Manor in Rock Island.
