Touting his accomplishments as governor of Ohio, John Kasich believes in "showing, not telling." During his first trip to Davenport today, the Republican presidential candidate says he's written 18 budgets in his lifetime, and they've all been balanced.
Kasich says after four years, he reduced Ohio's 8-billion-dollar debt to 2-billion.
If elected, Kasich says his first priority would be economic growth. But, a balanced budget will take time because of, what he calls, "necessary" tax cuts and military spending.
On immigration, Kasich says the solution is easy: "finish building the wall." And on climate change, he supports renewable energy and fracking regulations. But, questions how big a role humans play.
Kasich has only campaigned in Iowa five times, and this was his first stop in the Quad Cities. He promised not to attack President Obama or other candidates. Instead, he gave examples of bringing the Republican and Democratic parties together.
He spoke as part of a Quad Cities New Ideas Forum at Saint Ambrose University. And, will travel to Cedar Rapids for a town hall meeting this evening.
