IRS Phone Scam Hits the QC

fox6now

As tax season approaches, local police are warning residents of a phone scam targeting tax-payers. Yesterday, the Davenport Police Department announced people should be cautious when accepting calls from the Internal Revenue Service, or IRS.

Several residents say they've received phone calls, saying the IRS is going to sue them if they don't pay restitution. Callers may ask for a direct payment or credit card number.

Police say this is a common scam that's been growing in the Quad Cities lately. Anyone who receives a suspicious call should hang up.
