Water bills for residents of Blue Grass will look different beginning later this month. Friday the Iowa American Water company, which already serves the Iowa Quad Cities, announced the purchase of the Blue Grass city water system.
Last year in a special referendum, city residents supported the sale, with 86 per cent voting "yes." The price is 1.3 million dollars.
With the acquisition, Iowa American Water adds 650 customers to the 53,000 it already serves in Davenport, Bettendorf, Riverdale, LeClaire, and Dixon (Ia.).
In a press release, Blue Grass mayor Tim Brandenburg says with all the regulations and other challenges faced by water suppliers, "this sale is the best long-term, permanent and reliable solution" for his city.
