Indian Comedian Knox Commencement Speaker

Knox College

For Knox College, it's a two-fer. This year's commencement speaker is a comedian AND and graduate of the college.

Wednesday it announced Vir Das will speak at graduation in June - he graduated from Knox in 2002 and currently is known as "the biggest English speaking comedian in India." Das has appeared in Bollywood films, has his own multi-media consulting and production company, and just in the past year has done stand-up comedy in 35 cities on five continents.

He'll be the first graduate to serve as commencement speaker in 20 years, now set for June 3rd in Galesburg.

Recent graduation speakers include comedian Stephen Colbert, actor Ed Helms, actress Eva Longoria, US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, President Bill Clinton, and then US Senator Barack Obama.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
