Voters in the Illinois Quad Cities went to the polls Tuesday for municipal primary elections.

In East Moline, Reggie Freeman defeated 12-year incumbent mayor John Thodos to advance as the Democratic candidate for mayor with 60 percent of the vote. There aren't any other names on the ballot for the April 4 general election, so Freeman, the former police chief, will be the sole choice.

Democrats also chose candidates for alderman in the 3rd and 7th wards. Voters selected Nancy Mulcahey for Ward 3 and Jose Rico for Ward 7.

In Silvis, voters chose Matthew Carter in the Democratic mayoral race, Jim Nelson for clerk and Ian Pavelonis and Richard Lohse for aldermen in the second and third wards, respectively.

Republicans had some races in South Moline Township. Voters chose Tracy Best for their Township Supervisor candidate. He'll face democratic challenger Luis Puentes in April.

Voters also chose four trustee candidates to advance to the general election. Mark Lundahl received the most votes, with 717. He'll advance with Brian Forsberg, Lisa Griffin and Andrea Anderson.

The races in Moline were non-partisan. For Mayor, both Scott Raes and write-in candidate Stephanie Acri will advance to the April general election. The county clerk's office says the final tally for write-in ballots will be finalized Wednesday morning. According to the clerk's office, Raes received 23 percent of the vote.

Moline voters also chose Carol Triebel for alderman at large candidate.
