I-74 Bridge Project Will Affect Moline Traffic Soon

While crews continue to build the new I-74 bridge over the Mississippi River, drivers should be prepared for detours and delays in Moline. This morning, the city and Illinois DOT previewed several projects that will change traffic downtown and along the highway from the river south to the Avenue of the Cities.

Field Engineer, Ryan Hippen, says one project must be done before the department closes two major streets. Early next month, the I-74 River Drive off-ramp will be closed for sewer and underground work. Illinois-bound traffic will be detoured to the 7th Avenue exit and 19th Street.

Then Hippen says from May through early July, a contractor will re-construct 7th Avenue from the I-74 overpass to 23rd Street.

George Ryan, IL DOT I-74 Corridor Manager

George Ryan, from the Illinois DOT, says people should expect delays, leave early, be patient, and follow the signs throughout construction season.

Once again, drivers will have to avoid part of 19th Street. Hippen says early next month, it'll be closed from 12th Avenue to the Avenue of the Cities. Traffic will be detoured to I-74.

The highway south of Avenue of the Cities will be completely replaced this year and widened to six lanes.

The Moline projects are part of the $1.2 billion I-74 project. It includes the bridge and nearly eight miles of interstate.
