A busy highway in western Illinois will be closed for six months. Illinois Department of Transportation says a portion of highway 34 between Galesburg and Monmouth will close next Monday, April 16th, and not reopen until October.

Traffic from the approximately 10 mile stretch will be detoured to State Highway 1- 64.

The closing of Highway 34 will allow for bridge repairs, drainage improvements, and resurfacing. A map of the closing can be found on Illinois DOT Website.
