Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner will travel to northwestern Illinois Tuesday to celebrate an anniversary. One year ago, he signed the Future Energy Jobs Act which helped convince Exelon to keep open nuclear power plants in Cordova, near the Quad Cities, and Clinton in central Illinois.
Rauner is scheduled to visit the Cordova plant at 10 am and meet with plant employees, then hold a similar event at the Clinton plant Tuesday afternoon.
Keeping the plant open retained 800 jobs, with 700 more retained at the Clinton plant. Exelon had threatened to close the two nuclear power plants, saying they were un-profitable without help from the state.
