First Army New Commander

First Army

On Friday, a new leader will take over First Army. At a change of command ceremony on Arsenal Island, Major General Stephen Twitty will become the 38th commanding general.

Twitty comes to First Army from Fort Bliss, Texas, where he served as commanding general of the lst Armored Division and the Army Garrison.

Prior to the change of command, Twitty will be promoted to the rank of lieutenant general during a ceremony at First Army headquarters.

He takes over from Lieutenant General Michael Tucker who plans to retire after 44 years in the Army - Tucker has led First Army for three years.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
