Firecracker Mural Unveiled

WVIK News

A new mural was unveiled Tuesday to help celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Genesis Firecracker Run. The 40 by 40-foot mural is on the side of a brick building in East Moline at "Firecracker Corner," - 18th Avenue and 13th Street.

Organizers say it's located at a gateway intersection, and will welcome visitors to the city. And also calls attention to the economic boost the run gives East Moline every year.

The Genesis Firecracker Run will be held on July 4th, including a 10-k and 5-k run, The Triumph Mile, a kiddie run, hospital bed races, and an after-race party.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
