Nesting season ended early this year for eagles living near the Arconic plant in the Quad Cities. The lone egg being taken care of by Liberty and Justice, the long-time nesting pair outside the plant of Riverdale, apparently was damaged last week.
According to Arconic spokeman John Riches, another eagle attacked Liberty last Friday while she was sitting in the nest, injuring her and somehow damaging the egg. He says Liberty and Justice continued to tend to the egg Saturday, but then left it unattended on Sunday.
He says the two eagle parents continue coming to the nest, but seem confused. He believes we'll have to wait until next year for any more eaglets.
