East Moline residents will pay slightly more for trash pickup. Last night, the city council approved a fee increase of 20 cents per month.

Mayor John Thodos says earlier this year, the council decided to privatize garbage collection to save money. But the union filed a complaint with the Illinois Labor Relations Board which hasn't ruled on it yet.

Thodos says East Moline aldermen also delayed a vote on a hike in the sewer fee.

The city already implemented a series of rate increases, but usage has increased. And that fund will go into the red if fees aren't increased.

East Moline provides water and sewer services to several municipalities in lower Rock Island County, including Silvis, Hampton, and Carbon Cliff.

A special city council meeting has been scheduled for next Monday for continued discussion about the sewer fee and next year's budget proposal.
