DI Women's Teams to Play "Hoops in the Heartland"

NCAA Division I women's basketball debuts in the Quad Cities this weekend.

Michelle O'Neill reports, Sunday's doubleheader will be a preview of a big tournament in the spring.

Summary

On Wednesday, Northern Iowa and South Dakota State's game went into double-overtime. It was just four days before the Missouri Valley Conference/ Mid-American Conference Challenge to be held for the first time in Moline.

Joe Taylor, head of the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau, says it's a good preview of the Missouri Valley Conference women's tournament to be held in March. He says the previous venue was St. Charles, MO which was eight miles out of town and by itself. The Quad Cities has the advantage of hotels, restaurants, and attractions right outside the iWireless Center doors.

Before the end of February, Taylor says he and other staff will visit each of the ten colleges in the Missouri Valley Conference.

On Sunday at the iWireless Center, Northern Iowa will take on Akron at 1 p.m., then Illinois State will play Northern Illinois at 3:30 p.m.
