Davenport Mayor Announces High School Job Fair

Sam Dunklau

City officials in Davenport want to help local teenagers find summer jobs. Next month, The city and Iowa WORKS will host a job fair for high school students.

Iowa WORKS is an state employment resource agency.

Mayor Frank Klipsch says the fair is the first of its kind in Davenport, and is aimed at putting teens in front of employers.

"There's a lot of people that say 'well, go out and find a job!' That doesn't give a young person a lot of hope and opportunity. It may cause them a lot of stress and anxiety, so we're going to try to cut that part out."

Iowa WORKS spokeswoman Christine Caves says about 15 employers have signed up to attend the fair so far, and she's hoping to add another ten by the end of the month.

The fair will be held at the River Center in Davenport on April 13 from 3 to 6 PM.

I am currently a senior at Augustana College, majoring in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in Creative Writing. I serve as the General Manager for WAUG.fm, Augustana's online student radio station and have worked as an intern and DJ at Studstill Media Group. I report on local news for WVIK and am honored and excited to be a part of the news team. I hope to pursue a career in radio broadcasting and an eventual master's degree in English or Communications.
