A local school district is well on its way to filling a school that will close this month. Davenport Schools are looking for tenants to fill the first floor of JB Young School.
Last fall, the school board voted to close JB Young, and staff fielded ideas about how to use the building at meetings held in February. They included a half day summer camp, preschool, wellness clinic, and even a history center. Over 15,000 square feet of space is available.
District spokeswoman Dawn Saul says letters of interest are now being accepted, and the district hopes to hear from possible tenants soon.
Potential tenants have until June 15 to submit interest letters. The Davenport School Board will meet with selected agencies later this summer. Saul says tenants should begin moving in by early June of next year. That's the same time as an achievement center will move into the second and third floors of JB Young.
