Davenport Approves CitiBus Route Changes

City of Davenport

Next year, residents of Davenport might have to change where they catch the bus. Last night, the city council approved route changes for CitiBus, which will start in July.

Davenport Finance Director, Brandon Wright, says the biggest change is the addition of Sunday service. And during weekdays, buses will run one hour later, until 7 pm. The plan will also merge or eliminate routes people don't use very often.

After listening to bus riders, he says the city council updated the plan to include a route on Elmore Avenue.
Wright says the new routes do make the walk to bus stops longer for some CitiBus riders, but most should be within a seven minute walk.

Even though aldermen approved it, there are still a lot of decisions to make.

The city is looking at improving sidewalks, shelters, and benches at bus stops.

Wright says Davenport has $250,000 in this year's budget to add about 20 new shelters and 50 benches at CitiBus stops. And, the changes should save about $500,000 a year.
