Dangerous Winter Weather

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for the WVIK listening area until noon on Tuesday. Cold air moving into our region following last night's storm system will lead to bitterly cold wind chills through Tuesday morning.

Wind chills as low as minus 10 to minus 15 are expected. And under these conditions, frostbite can occur in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin.

In addition: look out for slick roads due to blowing and drifting snow. As temperatures continue to fall through the single digits, many untreated roads will be slick due to compacted snow and ice. Motorists should be careful, slow down, and allow extra travel time. Also, be prepared for local areas of low visibility due to blowing snow.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
