Crest Headed Toward QC

National Weather Service

The crest of the Mississippi River has just passed Fulton, and continues to move downstream. The river crested in Fulton on Thursday at 1.6 feet over flood stage, and has since fallen one-tenth of a foot.

At the Quad Cities, the river is now 2.4 feet over flood stage, and it's expected to rise another tenth of foot, and crest on Friday. It should hold at that level through Sunday, and then begin to fall.

The Mississippi is 2.3 feet over flood stage Thursday in Muscatine. The forecast calls for a crest on Saturday 2.7 feet over flood stage.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
