Contracts Approved for Davenport School Employees

With several months still to go before the deadline, work on a key part of next year's budget for the Davenport School District is finished. Tuesday night, the board of education approved extending the contract for the teacher's union, and new contracts for three other groups.

Superintendent Art Tate says there were some "language" changes in all four contracts, and the employees will all get raises.

"And if you take all four contracts together, the average increase is about 2 per cent per year. And that's a net of benefits, salary increases, and employees paying into their health plan."

The contract with the Davenport Education Association would have expired next year (2018), but has been extended to June of 2020.

Contracts were set to expire this year for the food and nutrition workers, para-educators, and secretaries, and their new agreements with the district are for three years - until 2020, like the teachers.

Doctor Tate credits the administration's great relationship with employees, and everyone's focus on the students.
