Community Pitches In for Davenport Theater Renovations

A kids theater in Davenport is set to start renovations after raising more than $160,000 for the project.
Davenport Junior Theater received a $70,000 grant from the city's parks and recreation department, another $30,000 thousand from Scott County, and most of the rest through private donations.

Artistic Director Daniel Sheridan says people of all ages pitched in.

"Tanner actually had his birthday party he turned 6 years old, and after he got his money his mom asked him, 'So buddy what do you want to do with your money?' and the first thing he said was he wanted to give to Junior Theater to help out with the renovation campaign," Sheridan said. "When you figure his gross annual income, that's a hefty donation."

Tanner Rieck donated $40 from his birthday money. Other kids held lemonade stands or online auctions to help out.

Sheridan says the money will pay for new seats, fresh paint, and new carpet among other improvements.

Renovations will start in August.
