Commencement at Knox College

Knox College

Graduates of Knox College and their families will hear from an actress, producer, and philanthropist at commencement this weekend. Eva Longoria will address the class of 2017 Sunday morning in Galesburg.

In addition to her roles on tv and in films, she founded a foundation to help Latinas build better futures for themselves, and co-founded an organization that works with people with special needs.

Longoria joins a long list of well-known commencement speakers at Knox, including US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, President Bill Clinton, comedian Stephen Colbert, and then-Illinois US Senator Barack Obama.

Longoria will receive an honorary degree, along with Wes Jackson co-founder of the Land Institute and a leading proponent of sustainable agriculture, and Fay Hartog Levin, former US ambassador to the Netherlands who's now a distinguished fellow at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
