Combined Federal Campaign Underway

Once again, federal employees are being asked to give to their favorite local, national, or international charities. The annual Combined Federal Campaign is underway, and continues through the end of the year.

Spokeswoman Linda Loebach says in this area the campaign covers 37 counties in eastern Iowa and western Illinois, and includes all federal, military, and postal employees.

"This year our goal is to contact 100 per cent of federal employees to give them the option to donate to their favoraite chairty. And we would like to raise at least 400,000 dollars."

Last year, donations totaled 383,000 dollars.

Loebach says a year ago 36 per cent of donations were earmarked for local charities and 64 per cent went to national and international organizations.

The top three recipients were Saint Jude Children's Research Hospitals, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the Humane Society of Rock Island County.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
