St. Ambrose University will hand out degrees to more than 600 students on Saturday at 1 pm at the TaxSlayer Center. Keynote speaker will be Davenport Diocese Bishop Thomas Zinkula , he will also receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in recognition of his dedication to the Catholic Church and his support for Catholic higher education.

Also Saturday at 1 pm in Macomb, Western Illinois University will recognize more than 2,200 graduates. The Quad Cities Campus will celebrate its graduates, Sunday at 1:30 pm.  Robert and Blenda Ontiveros will receive Honorary Doctorates of Humane Letters for their contributions to their community. They are the founders and owners of Group O in Milan, the ninth largest Hispanic-owned business in America.

And with over 260 graduates, Monmouth College will celebrate its 161st commencement Sunday at noon at the Wallace Hall Plaza. Commencement speaker will be  author Min Jin Lee, a finalist for last year's National Book Award.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
