Library services and long range plans will be the subjects for an upcoming series at the Rock Island Library called "Coffee and Conversation."
Library director Angela Campbell wants to make sure city residents understand the plans for the library, and have a chance to ask questions.
"The long range plan is that we would someday purchase the Tri-City Jewish Center to be a central library and renovate that. And then also with our downtown library, make it all on the first floor we we would have easy access for people to get in and out of the library and easier for staff to monitor the library."
The community room on the second floor downtown would still be open, and the ground floor could be used by local organizations like the Midwest Writing Center that's based there now. The Southwest Library on Ridgewood Road would also stay open.
These changes will take time - Campbell says the Rock Island Library foundation has started raising money and she hopes the transition can start in three years (2020).
The first Coffee and Conversation will be held Tuesday night downtown at 6 o'clock, with another on Thursday at 2 pm. A third session on Friday will be held at the Southwest branch, at 11 am.
