Clinton County Voters Approve New Jail

By an overwhelming majority, Clinton County residents have voted to replace a deteriorating jail. Tuesday, 1,654 people approved a $22 million bond issue for a new jail. That's close to 80 percent of the votes cast.

Sheriff Rick Lincoln says the current jail, built in 1969, is overcrowded and out of date. And the new jail will have room for 96 inmates with plexiglass walls to create a safer environment.

The project will also include new administrative offices for the Clinton County sheriff's department, an emergency management center, and 911 dispatch.

Lincoln says Clinton County residents will pay an additional $35 per year as a result of yesterday's vote.
