Dozens of people who visit Bettendorf this weekend will learn to cast lines, tie flies, and fool fish. The Hawkeye Fly Fishing Association will host its 44th annual show at the Isle of Capri.
Spokesman Dave Jones says people will learn all about the three skills needed for fly fishing, casting, fishing with a fly, and tying a fly. He gets the most enjoyment from tying materials to a hook that mimic something in nature and "fooling the fish" to eat it.
Another group Jones belongs to is the Iowa Coldwater Conservancy which has an ambitious fundraising goal of $1 million over the next five years to restore and improve water quality and wildlife habitat in northeastern Iowa.
Saturday night's keynote speaker will be Landon Mayer, who'll discuss "Colorado's Best Fly Fishing." Jones expects about 150 people to attend the Hawkeye Fly Fishing Show tomorrow night and Saturday at the Isle of Capri Hotel in Bettendorf.
