Cargo Plane & Crew from Illinois Lend a Hand in Texas

Seven people from Illinois are headed to Texas to help with hurricane relief. Today the Illinois National Guard sent members of the 182nd Airlift Wing to Dallas. They took off this morning from Peoria.

Colonel Robbie Robertson is the Vice Commander of the unit. He says all seven airmen volunteered to go. "They'll arrive at a Dallas airbase then assemble with other units to do what the federal agencies task them to do."

Their C-130 cargo airplane is able to transport people and supplies, which makes it very flexible. And Robertson says the airmen will help where ever they're needed. That may include evacuating people, delivering supplies, or even transporting patients who need medical care.

The six crew members and one maintenance airman are expected to work in Texas for three to four days.
