As workers build the new I-74 bridge, Bettendorf is working on several improvements downtown.
Jeff Reiter, Director of Economic Development, says they include a mix of public and private projects. One of them is Newbury Living's apartment building on the site of the old Twin Bridges Motel on 15th Street. Tenants will start moving in later this year.
Bettendorf plans to spend $400,000 to improve landscaping in front of city hall. It'll include a fountain and sculpture.
The Isle of Capri is managing a $1 million jetty park project along the riverfront where its riverboat used to dock. Reiter says the company will pick up three-fourths, or $750,000, of the bill. And the city will pay the rest.
Another private company, Build To Suit, plans to develop a commercial area in downtown Bettendorf between 15th and 16th streets. And Ascentra Credit Union will build its new headquarters between Grant and State streets, across from the Waterfront Convention Center.
Shive Hattery has produced a video that shows all the projects (see below). And Reiter says it'll be updated as more projects are added.
