Bettendorf Plans Big Changes for Downtown

Bettendorf wants to be prepared when the new I-74 bridge opens downtown. This month, officials revealed a "master plan," that would give the city a new look, and add more businesses and homes.

Community Development Director, Bill Connors, says the downtown will have a "different dynamic" when State and Grant Streets are re-aligned and the new I-74 bridge opens.
Connors says the "master plan" includes breaking up the downtown into six districts, each with different residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. And, he wants to make sure every area is as accessible as possible.

He wants to make it easy for walkers and bikers.

Connors says Bettendorf wants most of the development to be done by private companies, using little-to-no city money. An open house for residents to view the "downtown master plan" will be held next Tuesday.
