Augustana Plans Bergendoff Hall Renovation

Augustana College

Augustana College plans to renovate another building.  Bergendoff Hall of Fine Arts, which is adjacent to Centennial Hall, will be turned into a state-of-the-art music building.

Last year, the school in Rock Island built Brunner Theater in the former Student Center.

Sam Schlouch, the college's Major Gift Officer, says the project will be completed in several steps.

"Adding a couple of rehersal spaces, adding a small performance space, adding some classroom space as well as some student collaboration and ideation space.  Which is really exciting in this building that hasn't really been touched in terms of updates since it was built in the late 50s."

Donations from Augustana alumni and others will pay for the eight to ten million dollar project.  And Schlouch says the college has already received a one-million dollar commitment from a former member of the choir.

He hopes work on renovating Bergendoff begins in 2019.
