Hoping to protect some of its students, Augustana College is joining with other colleges across the country. They're going to ask federal courts to block the Trump Administration from revoking the DACA program.
The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program was approved by the Obama Administration to allow children brought to this country illegally, to study and work here, and avoid deportation.
President Steve Bahls says Augustana belongs to a group of 40 colleges filing a friend of the court brief with a federal appellate court.
"The argument we make is that higher education has benefitted by this, and that the court should take into accounty the benefits to higher education."
He's hoping consideration by the appellate court, and then the Supreme Court, will delay any final decision on DACA. He also hopes a new Congress elected in the fall will support allowing these young people to stay in the US.
Bahls calls this a human rights issue, not a political issue.
