Former Clinton LumberKings Manager, David Macias

For the third time this season, the Clinton LumberKings will have to get used to a new manager. Today, the team announced Manager David Macias has resigned after coaching only 45 games in the second half of the season.

Right before the all-star game, the Seattle Mariners fired former Manager Pat Shine, who had just started his first season with the Midwest League team. LumberKings spokesman, Erik Oas, says Macias left to accept a coaching job at Vanderbilt, his alma mater.

The Mariners have promoted Tony Armerich from his position as Minor League Coaching Coordinator to Manager of the LumberKings. And on Thursday night, he will start managing the team on the road as the LumberKings begin a four-game series in Beloit.

Since the Clinton baseball team joined the Midwest League in 1954, it's never had three managers in the same season.

Fifteen years ago, Armerich played eleven games with the Burlington Bees, but got more time with AA minor league teams. From 2007 through 2014, Armerich was an Assistant Coach with University of California Berkeley. He helped lead the Golden Bears to an appearance in the 2011 NCAA College World Series.
