The Iowa Utilities Board wants to know what customers of Alliant Energy think about its request to raise rates. Starting Tuesday the board will hold eight public comment meetings across the state as it considers a possible 12.5 per cent increase.
The first meeting is Tuesday night in Ottumwa, with meetings coming up in Peosta on May 30th, Cedar Rapids on June lst, and Fort Madison on June 8th.
Public comment sessions will also be held in Osceola, Spencer, and Marshalltown.
In April, Alliant started implementing a temporary rate increase of 8.3 per cent, or about 9 1/2 dollars per month. If state regulators agree to the full request, monthly bills would go up more than 14 dollars ($14.26).
Alliant provides electrical service to 490,000 customers in Iowa.
