1 Killed, 4 Injured in Davenport Street Racing Crash

Davenport Police Department

Police are blaming drag racing for a crash that left one person dead, and four others hurt, in Davenport. Yesterday, Davenport police responded to a three-vehicle crash on Kimberly Road.

The crash involved two cars heading west on Kimberly Road. Both vehicles struck a third car, turning east onto the road. The third car's driver and front passenger were taken to Genesis East Medical Center for injuries. The back seat passenger, an adult female, died at the hospital.

A 17-year-old male driving the first car was not hurt. The second car's driver, 37-year-old Timothy Bell of Davenport, and a female passenger, were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Evidence and witnesses have led police to believe the two cars were speeding and racing each other prior to the crash. The 17-year-old driver has been charged with homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, and drag racing. He has been turned over to the Scott County Juvenile Detention Center.
