Affordable housing in Rock Island is getting a face lift. Sunset Heights on Martin Luther King Drive/9th Street in Rock Island is undergoing a 12 million dollar renovation. 

Soup or Bowls

This weekend a local charity is asking you to place your bets on  "Soup or Bowls". On Saturday, Discounted Furniture in Rock Island will collect canned food and other donations for Christian Care Homeless Men's Shelter downtown and QC Paws Animal Shelter in Moline. 

Bettendorf Police Department

A veteran of the Bettendorf Police Department will probably soon become its next chief. Today the city announced, Captain Keith Kimball has been chosen to replace Phil Redington, who's led the department for 25 years, and plans to retire in May. 

A Galesburg resident will join congresswoman Cheri Bustos at the State of the Union Address on Tuesday. Sarah Miller first contacted Bustos in April 2016 when Galesburg tested high for lead content in water.

City of Davenport

The City of Davenport hopes its casino will attract new development to Elmore Corners. A Public Meeting will be held Monday evening to discuss the "Master Design Plan" for the area around the Rhythm City Casino. Elmore Corners refers to the intersection of Elmore Avenue and Veterans Memorial Parkway.

 The plan sets architectural and design standards for the area. Davenport Senior Planning Manager Matt Flynn says it will ensure predictability, an attractive quality to developers.   "It is pretty inevitable in my opinion that future development will occur in this area and this gives us an opportunity to do it right."

A Black Hawk College student and his friend are trying to get Joe Biden to run for president in 2020. Collin West of East Moline and Matthew Graf of Rock Island recently founded the "Time For Biden" Super PAC to rally support for the former vice president. 

Life After Hate

 Is there life after hate? The answer is yes for Frank Meeink who was the keynote speaker on Saturday during the Symposium Against Hate organized by One Human Family QCA.

Teenagers at a local high school continued a tradition of honoring veterans. Today, ROTC students at Davenport Central High School recognized alumni who were killed while serving in the military.
