Jazz After Hours with Don Wooten

Jan 1, 1970

Saturday nights at 10:00 pm

Don Wooten plays two hours of jazz from the WVIK library. Jazz After Hours is the oldest jazz program in Quad cities radio. It began in the fall of 1950, with co-hosts Don Wooten and Jack Payne (leader of the Ambassadors, a local band) on WHBF. After Jack quit the program in 1951, Wooten remained the host through 1971. The program was revived when WVIK went on the air in 1980.

Of the 168 hours in WVIK’s broadcast week, nearly half are locally produced. From classical music (which makes up the bulk of our broadcast day) and public affairs programming like Art Talks, Midwest Week and The Parent Trip, to local concerts by the Quad City Symphony Orchestra and The Handel Oratorio Society, and the award-winning Rock Island Lines, WVIK takes pride in producing quality local programs to complement the best fare from NPR and APM.

Saturday Mornings from 10:00 am until 12 Noon.

Two hours of fun, or where old British radio programs go to die, depending on your point of view. Don Wooten and a cavalcade of guests kill two hours in a very unceremonious way. The conversation and mayhem is accompanied by the panels of My Word, My Music, and the ground-breaking British comedy of The Goon Show.

On Jan. 2, 2013, the Charitable IRA Rollover provision was signed into law once again providing philanthropic Americans a way to use the money in their IRAs to make charitable gifts. If you have an IRA and plan on making a gift to WVIK in 2013, this legislation could positively affect you.

Those of you who have gifted from your IRAs in this way in the past are familiar with how this positively impacts your financial situation. There are two unique provisions to this renewal:
