Spending on the military and defense in Illinois supports 150,000 jobs and more than 13 billion dollars worth of economic activity. That's the conclusion of a new study announced today by Illinois Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon and the Illinois Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

Seven months after work began, a local landmark will celebrate the completion of its renovations. Thursday morning, Southpark Mall in Moline will hold a ribbon cutting, unveil a new play area, and feature entertainment and give-aways all day.
One of the Quad Cities' largest employers will spend $190 million to improve the strength of its products. Yesterday, Alcoa announced it will expand the Davenport Works and add a new manufacturing process. Andrea Douglas, a spokeswoman from the Riverdale plant, says Alcoa's goal is to increase its customers base in aerospace and other industries. Next year, she says the company will install a piece of equipment called a "very thick plate stretcher."
